Mid-March Shake Shack switched to a temporary to-go only model in all company-owned US restaurants, after announcing stepping up safety/cleaning measures on March 12. A March 16th press release addressed a worker in their Hartsdale restaurant tested positive for COVID-19: “We’re temporarily closing the Shack for a top-to-bottom clean and sanitization. We’ve asked all employees who worked with the diagnosed team member to self-quarantine for 14 days, per CDC guidelines, and we expect the restaurant to remain closed until further notice given staff availability.”
On April 10th they announced most restaurants were curbside-pickup-only with no guests allowed inside, with ordering available online.
April 19th, they returned the PPP funds.
May 4th they announced the temporary close of 26 of their US locations, with continued to-go service and online ordering/delivery through 3rd party apps available in others.
